Who is South African Women in Plumbing and Trades?
South African Women in Plumbing and Trades initiative aims to support women, youth and persons of disability in the trades value chain.
South African Women in Plumbing and Trades are a non-profit organisation set up to assist in encouraging the elevation of all women, youth and persons with disabilities in the trades sector.
We are advocating that being a trades person and working in the trade sector is a viable career for females. We are here to address the concerns and challenges of women , youth and persons with disabilities in the sector.

Our Mission
Ceramic Project 2021
Funded by Ceramic Industries, SAWIPT embarked on a mission to uplift the community after the devastating effects the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown had on our countries rate of unemployment.
In 2021 from June to November SAWIPT successfully trained 30 FLC (Foundation Learning Competency) students which is Gap training required as a minimum qualification for ARPL (Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning) and 45 Plumbers hand students which is a Basic upskill plumbing program for unqualified plumbing labourers’ to allow them the opportunity to enter the Plumbing trade with experience and stand out from other candidates.

6-Month Course
Assists qualified or soon-to-be qualified artisans in starting and building sustainable businesses.
Become Successful Employers
Aims to equip eligible candidates with the necessary knowledge and tools to become successful employers rather than seeking employment opportunities.
Learn Technical Skills
Eligible candidates include qualified artisans or those in the process of finalizing their qualifications who have an interest in learning the technical skills for business.

12-Month Course
The program is designed to provide mentorship and experience within the sector in partnership with TVET colleges.
For Women and Youth
Aimed at assisting women and youth who run plumbing and electrical businesses.
Mentorship & Training
The program includes pre-assessment of technical skills, OHSA training, mentorship and mentee training, and training on plumbing and electrical regulations, standards, and innovation.
Access to Markets
The second phase involves practical application of these skills and access to markets with the assistance of JOSHCO, DPWI, and other government buildings.

6-Month Course
The CAT(her)LYST program is designed to help women already running plumbing businesses.
Learn Business Skills
Consists of three phases: the first phase focuses on business skills such as marketing and sales, financial management, etc.
Learn Technical Skills & Be Mentored
The second phase focuses on technical skills. Mentorship is included in the third phase of program.
Bridging the gap for tradespeople in targeted groups
